This study focuses on simulating a destroyed scene within an object environment, where everyday household objects undergo autonomous disintegration. The aim is to depict the chaos associated with natural or man-made disasters; including war, earthquakes, bushfires, or tsunamis. Our performance piece then installation aims to highlight the hidden and unsettling emotions that arise in spaces that were once regarded as "home," this research seeks to discover the significance of these environments that we often take for granted. The artistic approach in this study involves utilizing sound frequencies and motors to trigger movements, which results in the shattering of a scene comprising a lightlamp, curtain, and dining table at home. The selection of the home as a location its association with nostalgia, comfort, and its cultural significance across generations or communities, particularly during shared meal times.
This installation is part of my research through making course at my Masters of Fine Art Programme at the Creative Media School at City University Hong Kong. This was a group project made with my classmates Jonathan, Samsen, Mengtian and I. The installation was showcased at PMQ Central Hong Kong as well.
